Ralph A. Baer

Dr. Baer (Illinois '65), 85, Iuka, Illinois, died Jan. 7, 2019. In 1984, he established Baer Small Animal Clinic in Trenton, Illinois, where he practiced until retirement. During that time, Dr. Baer also served as veterinarian for Clinton County Animal Control. Earlier in his career, he owned Baer Small Animal Clinic in Flora, Illinois, and served as a livestock and poultry inspector with the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Dr. Baer was a member of the Illinois State VMA and University of Illinois Alumni Alliance. His wife, Jean; three sons and a daughter; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren survive him.

Bernard F. Brennan

Dr. Brennan (Pennsylvania '46), 97, Hobe Sound, Florida, died April 26, 2019. Following graduation, he practiced in Aiken, South Carolina. In 1953, Dr. Brennan moved to Westbury, New York, where he established an equine practice at Roosevelt Raceway, serving as supervisory veterinarian.

A past president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, Dr. Brennan was active with the New York State VMS and New Jersey VMA. His four daughters, four sons, 21 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren survive him. One daughter, Dr. Nancy E. Brennan (Pennsylvania '89), is a veterinarian in Louisville, Kentucky.

James L. Burt

Dr. Burt (Auburn '73), 69, Philadelphia, Mississippi, died April 22, 2019. He worked as a deputy district director with the Department of Agriculture in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama for more than 35 years. Dr. Burt's wife, Peggy, and a brother survive him.

Marvin T. Case

Dr. Case (Illinois '59), 84, Naples, Florida, died May 3, 2019. Following graduation, he was in the Army for two years. From 1961-69, Dr. Case served on the veterinary faculty of the University of Illinois, initially as an instructor of pathology and later as an assistant professor. During that time, he earned his master's and doctorate in veterinary pathology and received what is now known as the Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award.

In 1969, Dr. Case joined Riker Laboratories in Northridge, California. Riker was acquired by 3M Co. in 1970, and the pharmaceutical research division moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. Dr. Case went on to serve at 3M as a corporate scientist and director of corporate toxicology, retiring in 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a son, daughter, stepson, and stepdaughter; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Dr. Marvin and Carolyn Case Scholarship Fund, University of Illinois Foundation, Harker Hall, MC-386, 1305 W. Green St., Urbana, IL 61801.

Kenneth C. Fletcher Sr.

Dr. Fletcher (Texas A&M '76), 71, Pharr, Texas, died Feb. 2, 2019. He served as veterinarian at the San Antonio Zoo. During his career, Dr. Fletcher developed new techniques for bird sexing and infrared candling of emu eggs. He is survived by two sons. Memorials may be made to the San Antonio Zoo, 3903 N. William E. Harwood

Dr. Harwood (Texas A&M '63), 80, San Antonio, died Feb. 11, 2019. He practiced small animal medicine in San Antonio for more than 50 years. Dr. Harwood was a veteran of the Army. His wife, Diana; two sons; four grandchildren; a brother; and a sister survive him.

Keith Kitson Logue

Dr. Logue (Purdue '80), 64, South Bend, Indiana, died May 6, 2019. A mixed animal veterinarian, he co-founded South Bend Animal Emergency Clinic in 1983. Dr. Logue also owned Stewart Pet Products Ltd. Early in his career, he worked at practices in South Bend and Mishawaka, Indiana.

Dr. Logue held leadership positions at Reins of Life Therapeutic Horseback Riding and Edward Lowe Industries in South Bend; Hill's Pet Nutrition in Topeka, Kansas; Kaytee Products in Chilton, Wisconsin; and the Purdue Veterinary Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife, Julianna; a son and a daughter; and a brother.

Paul E. McCune

Dr. McCune (Minnesota '85), 59, Cedar Lake, Indiana, died March 24, 2019. He owned Illiana Equine Clinic in Cedar Lake. Dr. McCune's wife, Debbie; a son and a daughter; and three brothers survive him.

William E. Michel

Dr. Michel (Missouri '61), 87, Carthage, Missouri, died March 5, 2019. He practiced small animal medicine in Carthage for 30 years. Dr. Michel also wrote monthly articles titled "Animal Crackers" for the Carthage Press.

He was a member of the Carthage Rotary Club and a veteran of the Army. Dr. Michel's wife, Sunny; a daughter and a son; and four grandchildren survive him. Robert R. Pensinger

Dr. Pensinger (Illinois '60), 90, Santa Cruz, California, died April 16, 2019. Following graduation, he began a career in cardiology research at the Animal Medical Center in New York. Dr. Pensinger later continued research at Warner-Lambert in Morristown, New Jersey; Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston; and the University of California and Scripps Institute of Oceanography in San Diego.

In 1971, he moved to Santa Cruz, going into private practice at the Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Pensinger also established the Veterinary Post Graduate Institute, which he operated for 25 years, before selling it to the North American Veterinary Conference. He later founded Ocean Animal Clinic in Santa Cruz.

Dr. Pensinger was a founding member and diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (cardiology) and a past president of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. In 1989, he received the American Animal Hospital Association's Outstanding Practitioner Award. In 1992, AAHA recognized him for outstanding service to the veterinary profession.

Jo-Anne F. Wisniewski

Dr. Wisniewski (Cornell '78), 66, Sherwood, Oregon, died Dec. 29, 2018. A small animal veterinarian, she owned Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin in Tualatin, Oregon, prior to retirement in 2018. In 2017, the Portland VMA named her Veterinarian of the Year.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Jonathan A. Wisniewski (Oregon State '11), who owns Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin, and a sister. Memorials may be made to the John and Jo-Anne Wisniewski Endowed Scholarship in Computer Science and Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195.

James F. Zimmer

Dr. Zimmer (Cornell '68), 75, Loudon, Tennessee, died March 18, 2019. Following graduation, he worked at practices in Massachusetts and New York. Dr. Zimmer subsequently served briefly on the veterinary faculty of Purdue University. He went on to teach at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and State University of New York-Delhi. Following his retirement, Dr. Zimmer worked part time in private practice and veterinary research.

From 2013-15, he served as mayor of the village of Dryden in New York. Dr. Zimmer's wife, Jennifer; four sons; and 10 grandchildren survive him.
