11th edition of Merck manual to be published in July

Merck & Co. will publish the 11th edition of The Merck Veterinary Manual in July.

A comprehensive reference for veterinarians, veterinary students, veterinary technicians, and other animal health professionals since 1955, the manual has been completely updated and covers all species and disorders of veterinary interest worldwide. Nearly 400 veterinary experts from academia, government, research organizations, and specialty practices, from more than 20 countries, contributed to the 11th edition. The new book discusses numerous emerging topics since the last edition was released in 2010.

The 11th edition features the following:

  • A section dedicated to public health, covering public health functions and agencies, epidemiological principles, disease outbreak investigations, and food safety and providing an extensive table of zoonoses.
  • Additional information on heart disease, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine, wound management, and pharmacology, the last including drug resistance.
  • Expanded coverage of fish and aquaculture and new chapters on backyard poultry, toxicological workplace hazards, and smoke inhalation.
