Awards: Distinguished Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. William “Bill” Tyrrell, Leesburg. A 1992 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Tyrrell is a partner at Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates and serves as Virginia’s alternate delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates. He helped establish and develop the Potomac Region Veterinary Conference. Dr. Tyrrell is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Paul F. Landis Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. Don Gardner, Huddleston. A 1970 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Gardner owns Gardner Bovine Veterinary Services and Gardner Heifers Inc. He is a past president of the Dairy Calf and Heifer Association and Virginia Academy of Food Animal Practitioners. Veterinary Service Award: Dr. Doug Graham, Blacksburg. A 1998 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Graham works in the office of the dean at Virginia-Maryland, where he is in charge of referring-practitioner relations. Mentor of the Year: Dr. Claudia True, Ashland. A 1986 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. True practices at Woodside Equine Clinic. Recent Graduate Leadership Award: Dr. Katie Rohrig, Danville. A 2009 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Rohrig is an associate veterinarian at Mount Hermon Animal Clinic. She helped organize and represents the newly established Southside VMA on the VVMA board of directors.
