The AVMA has launched a new benefit for its members: a series of widgets—free website content—that can help veterinarians promote their practices.

The widgets can be added to a practice website, making for a more informative and interesting visitor experience and a more effective communication tool for the practice, said Dr. Douglas G. Aspros, then AVMA president, in a June 4 AVMA press release.

The number and type of widgets available at any given time will vary, as some will relate to annual observances such as National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which takes place annually the third full week of May.

To use a widget, AVMA members may follow the instructions to copy and paste one into their website in the location where they would like the widget to appear.

Widgets currently available are the following:

  • Dog Bite Prevention—Educate clients and the public about dog bite prevention with the AVMA’s embeddable infographic on the subject, “Dog Bites by the Numbers.”
  • Veterinary Medicine Mobility Act—Help clients understand why veterinarians need to use controlled substances beyond their places of business through plain language and pictures.
  • MyVeterinarian.com—A veterinary clinic locator widget that can help clients find a veterinarian when they travel with their pets.
