Dr. Vicki L. Thayer is the new president of the Winn Feline Foundationboard of directors, the foundation announced Nov. 1. Dr. Thayer succeeds actress Betty White, who remains on the board.

Since joining the Winn foundation board in 2008, Dr. Thayer has focused on strengthening ties with other foundations and organizations. Her efforts led to the development of the Winn/American Veterinary Medical Foundation Veterinary Student Scholarship and Excellence in Feline Research Award.

More recently, Dr. Thayer has been working with the AVMF, American Association of Feline Practitioners, and Morris Animal Foundation to create and fund a feline-focused health studies coalition under the Cat Health Network umbrella.

Dr. Thayer is a Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine graduate and a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (feline). She has published articles on feline retroviruses and established the first feline-exclusive veterinary practice in the Diablo Valley region of northern California.

Over the years, Dr. Thayer has held a number of leadership positions within organized veterinary medicine. She was a director on the AAFP board for 20 years and association president from 1996-1998. Dr. Thayer also represented the feline practitioners association in the AVMA House of Delegates from 2004-2010.
