| Robert J. Cyrog Dr. Cyrog (ONT '37), 88, Sun City West, Ariz., died May 28, 2002. From 1947 until retirement in 1982, he owned a small animal practice in Skokie, Ill. A World War II veteran, Dr. Cyrog served in the Army Veterinary Corps from 1942-1946. He attained the rank of major. Dr. Cyrog was a past president of the Chicago VMA. He was also a member of the Illinois State VMA and the Ontario VMA. Dr. Cyrog's wife, Ethel; two daughters; and a son survive him. His son, Dr. Peter E. Cyrog (OSU '70), is a veterinarian in California. |
| | Clifford J. Jelmberg Dr. Jelmberg (WSU '58), 67, Othello, Wash., died Jan. 12, 2002. He owned a mixed practice in Othello for 40 years. Dr. Jelmberg was a member of the North Central Washington VMA and the Washington State VMA. | Raymond E. Kerlin Dr. Kerlin (UP '40), 84, Goldsboro, N.C., died June 12, 2002. Prior to retirement, he practiced small animal medicine in Yardville, N.J. Dr. Kerlin was the former bureau chief of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture's Livestock Disease Control. He had also served as senior public health veterinarian for the New Jersey Department of Health. Dr. Kerlin was a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army, the Air National Guard, and the Air Force Reserve. Dr. Kerlin retired from the Air Force as lieutenant colonel. His wife, Constance; two sons; and a daughter survive him. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Program of 3HC, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534. |
| William L. Lukens Dr. Lukens (OSU '38), 87, Hillsboro, Ohio, died Nov. 19, 2001. Retired since 1980, he had owned the practice in Hillsboro where, following graduation, he had joined his father, Dr. William R. Lukens (OSU '14), in mixed practice. From 1939-1944, Dr. Lukens served in the Army Veterinary Corps and the National Guard. He attained the rank of captain. In 1956, Dr. Lukens was named Veterinarian of the Year by the Ohio VMA. He received the Ohio Alumni Service Award from The Ohio State University in 1984. Dr. Lukens is survived by his wife, Martha, and two sons. His nephew, Dr. William R. | Rudolf I. Polyak Dr. Polyak (BUD '56), 71, Whittier, Calif., died May 6, 2002. Retired since 1986, he had owned small animal clinics in Whittier, La Mirada, Hacienda Heights, La Habra Heights, Downey, Southgate, and South Pasadena, all in California. Prior to that, Dr. Polyak practiced large animal medicine in New Zealand for seven years. He is survived by his wife, Margit; three sons; and a daughter. One son is Dr. Stephan Polyak (BUD '00). |
| Bernard H. Skold Dr. Skold (COL '42), 87, Ames, Iowa, died June 7, 2002. Prior to retirement in 1980, he was a professor at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Skold was a diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine and a member of the American Association of Veterinary Anatomists. He was also a member of the Iowa VMA. Dr. Skold served in the Army Veterinary Corps for 26 years, retiring in 1960. He was a member of the U.S. Constabulary and the U.S. Horse Cavalry Association. Dr. Skold is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and a daughter. |
| Brinton L. Swift Dr. Swift (COL '51), 75, Torrington, Wyo., died May 21, 2002. Professor emeritus at the University of Wyoming since 1986, he then farmed in Nebraska for 15 years before retiring to Torrington. From 1951-1964, Dr. Swift practiced large animal medicine in Johnson County, Wyoming. During this time, he was also involved in cattle ranching. Dr. Swift joined the faculty at the University of Wyoming in 1964, teaching in the Animal Sciences Department and conducting research. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Dr. Swift co-authored the text Diseases of Sheep. He was a lifetime member of the Wyoming VMA, having served as secretary and president. Dr. Swift became Wyoming's delegate to the AVMA in 1962. In 1999, the Wyoming VMA honored him with the Distinguished Service Award. He was given special recognition by the association in 2000. Dr. Swift is survived by his wife, Jeanne, and a son.
