A 30-second pet health care vignette created by the AVMA and Animal Planet is airing on the Animal Planet cable television channel, which reaches more than 77 million homes, during the third quarter of this year.

The initial series of four vignettes is hosted by Dr. Kent Vince, a recent graduate of the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Topics include pet travel, dental care, obesity, and nutrition. Besides being fun and educational, the messages encourage pet owners to visit their veterinarian.

The message on pet nutrition airs between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Sept. 30. The AVMA and Animal Planet names are featured at the beginning of the spot, and the AVMA-approved sponsor, Pedigree Dog Foods, appears at the end.

In addition to airing the Pedigree-sponsored spot, Animal Planet is occasionally airing the other three vignettes without the AVMA logo attached. It is only when approved sponsors are signed that the AVMA name and logo are included.

Animal Planet representatives believe these health care vignettes present a great opportunity for corporations to support a joint educational message from the AVMA and Animal Planet.
