Seattle, Atlanta win bids for '09, '10 conventions

In 2009 AVMA members will converge on Seattle for their annual convention, and the following year, Atlanta. The Executive Board has approved these destinations, recommended by the Convention Management and Program Committee.

Since the 1986 AVMA Annual Convention in Atlanta and the 1991 convention in Seattle, the Georgia World Congress Center and the Washington State Convention and Trade Center have each undergone extensive expansionand renovation.

Downtown Atlanta and Seattle offer shopping, international dining opportunities, live theater, symphony, historic sites, and cultural opportunities.

In Seattle, a new Mariners ballpark and a professional football and soccer stadium will be fully functional. Seattle is served by an extensive public transportation system that includes complimentary shuttle bus service in the downtown area.

A park designed for the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta will provide a direct connection between the AVMA hotel block and convention center. The Atlanta Braves play at nearby Turner Field. The subway system offers quick, safe transportation.

Dates of the conventions will be July 11-15, 2009, in Seattle, and July 31-Aug. 4, 2010 in Atlanta.
