Indiana VMA
Event: Annual meeting, Feb. 1-3, Indianapolis
Program: The scientific agenda at the 118th annual meeting included dermatology, gastroenteritis, feline medicine, behavior, and large animal issues.
Awards: Veterinarian-of-the-Year Award: Dr. Alan Rebar, West Lafayette, for exceptional contributions to veterinary medicine. Dean of the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Rebar received his DVM degree there in 1973. President's Award: Dr. Mary Schmidt, Pendleton, for assistance to the president of the association. Dr. Schmidt is chairman of the Indiana VMA Welfare Committee. Public Relations Award: Dr. Larry McAfee, Valparaiso. Dr. McAfee is dedicated to promoting veterinary medicine to the public. Public Service Award: Dr. Bret Marsh, Carmel, for contributions to the profession. Dr. Marsh is currently the state veterinarian in Indiana.

Awards: Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. A. R. Conquest, Grand Blanc, won this award, presented to a Michigan VMA life member who has served the veterinary profession in an exemplary fashion on the state and/or national level. A former member of the AVMA Judicial Council, Dr. Conquest chaired the Michigan VMA Ethics Committee for 14 years. W. Kenneth McKersie Service Award: Dr. Paul W. Mesack, Grayling, for cumulative service benefiting the profession, community, and state association. A small animal practitioner in Grayling, Dr. Mesack was recently re-elected to a third term on the Michigan VMA board of directors and is active in promoting veterinary continuing education. Merit Award: Dr. Gail S. Wolfe, Okemos, and Debra Lakatos, Adrian. A 1970 graduate of Michigan State University, Dr. Wolfe was honored for promoting responsible pet ownership and veterinary medicine through the annual program "People, Pets, and Vets." Lakatos is a licensed veterinary technician and was given this award for service to the Michigan Veterinary Conference Planning Committee.

Event: Annual meeting, Jan. 17-20, Osage Beach
 Dr. Edward G. Migneco

Awards: Veterinarian-of-the-Year Award: Dr. Edward G. Migneco, St. Louis, for outstanding achievements and service to the profession. The owner of City Animal Hospital in St. Louis, Dr. Migneco serves on the board of the Greater St. Louis VMA and Stray Rescue of St. Louis. A diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Dr. Migneco is certified in canine and feline practice. He serves as a veterinary consultant for the St. Louis Zoo and is on the advisory committee at Jefferson College. Dr. Migneco volunteers his time to Pekin Duck Rescue, the low-cost spaying/neutering program for St. Louis, Feline Friends, Open Door Animal Sanctuary, PAWS, Pound Pals, and Belleview Area Rescue of K-9s.
Business: The Membership Committee noted a 10 percent increase in membership, and the Information Systems Committee discussed the development of an updated Web site. Dr. Ron Cott, Columbia, and Dr. David Prigelfrom, Aurora, were appointed as delegate and alternate delegate to the AVMA, respectively.

Awards: Veterinarian-of-the-Year Award: Dr. William C. Carson, Alda, for advancing veterinary medicine in Nebraska. A distinguished member of the Nebraska VMA, Dr. Carson has served on the Disease Control and Legislative Committee, the Auction Market Committee, and the Livestock Industry Committee. Distinguished Service Award: Dr. Leo L. Lemonds, Hastings, for outstanding service to the advancement of veterinary medicine in any and all aspects of the profession. Dr. Lemonds is the author of "A Century of Veterinary Medicine in Nebraska" and "Beginning the Second Century."

South Carolina Association of Veterinarians
Event: Annual meeting, Jan. 24-27, Greenville; approximately 140 veterinarians and 80 technicians attended the meeting.
Awards: Veterinarian-of-the-Year Award: Dr. Nancy M. Hughston, Spartanburg, for outstanding contributions to the veterinary profession. A 1976 graduate of the University of Georgia, Dr. Hughston is a past president of the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians and is active in community work. Distinguished Veterinarian Award: Dr. James Eidson, Clemson, won this award, given to a senior veterinarian who has served the profession and the community. Dr. Eidson received his DVM degree from the University of Georgia in 1960. A Paul Harris fellow, he practiced in Florence for 18 years and currently practices in Clemson. Technician-of-the-Year Award: Janice Parler of the Newberry College Veterinary Technician Program.
