CDC links E coli illnesses to farm visits, agency issues new strategies
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in late April released the results of a study linking outbreaks of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in Washington and Pennsylvania to contact with farm animals. Along with the study, the CDC published in the April 20 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report a list of strategies that petting zoos, farms, county fairs, and other sites that allow human contact with farm animals should use to avoid the transmission of disease.
