About 14,000 veterinarians will soon be asked to participate in a survey on antimicrobial use by a team of large and small animal veterinarians, epidemiologists, microbiologists, and statisticians.

Researchers in the Antimicrobial Resistance Research Group at Colorado State University say they hope this survey will help them collect information on veterinarians' opinions about antimicrobial use and its effect on public health, as well as specific clinical information about veterinary drug prescription habits.

Those selected to participate in the survey—about 2,000 from each group of small animal, large animal, predominantly small animal, predominantly large animal, equine, exotic, and other practitioners—will receive a notification card sometime around March 22, and the survey approximately one week after that. The researchers urge veterinarians to complete the survey, which should take 15 to 20 minutes, so the study will produce significant findings. They hope to have initial results available by early summer.
