AVMA members in classes of 2018-2023 are eligible

Just over a month after beginning to pair new veterinary graduates with experienced mentors, the MentorVet Connect program, brought to you by the AVMA, is expanding to embrace more early-career veterinarians.

This popular program is now open to all AVMA members in their first five years of practice. Any AVMA member who graduated in the Class of 2018 or later can sign up to receive free mentoring through MentorVet Connect.

Connecting and growing through mentorship

The opportunity to receive mentoring from an experienced and nurturing colleague can be transformational for early-career veterinarians. A proven mentoring program can provide a solid foundation to steer new veterinarians  on the path toward success and fulfillment. There’s even research data to demonstrate the value and potential impact of mentoring.

That’s why the AVMA partnered with MentorVet to create MentorVet Connect. The program brings together early-career veterinarians with trained mentors outside of their own workplace, who can provide both emotional and career support.

  • Mentoring takes place remotely, so geography isn’t an issue.
  • Both mentor and mentee get training in advance—helping to ensure the mentoring will be productive.
  • The formal mentoring relationship lasts for six months. After that, mentor and mentee can decide together if they want to continue.

If you’re an AVMA member who graduated in 2018 or later, sign up here to get a mentor.

Become a mentor

MentorVet Connect is also looking for experienced veterinarians who want to become mentors. Volunteering as a mentor is a rewarding and practical way to give back to the profession we love, and the mentoring relationship can transform both participants.

Any AVMA member who is licensed and has at least one year of experience can apply to become a mentor through MentorVet Connect. Mentors complete a five-hour orientation, eligible for RACE-approved CE, before being paired with potential mentees.
