Veterinary Services makes management moves

The USDA on Aug 11 announced two important appointments in the Veterinary Services program of APHIS.

Dr. Thomas E. Walton has been named director of the Centers for Epidemiology and Animal Health, Fort Collins, Colo. Dr. Walton was formerly associate deputy administrator of Veterinary Services, a post he held since 1997.

Dr. Chester A. Gipson, formerly director of the Veterinary Services animal health programs staff, replaces Dr. Walton as associate deputy administrator of Veterinary Services.

Dr. Walton is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. He has served in a number of positions with the USDA Agricultural Research Service and the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Gipson has held numerous staff and field positions during his more than 20 years with the USDA.
