Kinnarney reelected vice president
The AVMA House of Delegates elected Dr. Joseph H. Kinnarney to a second one-year term as AVMA vice president. The mixed animal practitioner from Reidsville, NC, will serve as liaison between the AVMA and veterinary students and recent graduates.
Dr. E. Max Sink, North Carolina delegate, who nominated Dr. Kinnarney for his second term, noted that during his first year as AVMA vice president, Dr. Kinnarney visited 15 veterinary colleges and some 3,000 students. Dr. Sink asked the HOD to reelect Dr. Kinnarney so he could "continue representing veterinary medicine in high places such as the veterinary medical colleges."
Dr. Mary A. Bryant, Delaware delegate and former SAVMA delegate, and Dr. Shara Phillips, SAVMA delegate, seconded his nomination. Dr. Bryant praised Dr. Kinnarney for helping formulate the plan and working tirelessly with the students to win them a vote in the AVMA HOD. Phillips said "he gets down in the trenches" with the students.
While a student at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Kinnarney was president of the SAVMA chapter there. He also was the national SAVMA president. For 13 years he was the North Carolina alternate delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates. Dr. Kinnarney also is active in state and local veterinary organizations.
