138th AVMA Annual Convention - Boston, July 14-18, 2001

Two mentoring sessions targeting veterinary students and recent graduates will be offered this July at the AVMA Annual Convention in Boston.

The "life experience" sessions include panel discussions led by four veterinarians sharing their experiences in a particular area. On July 15, the topic is "Balancing Career and Family," with "Career Pathways for Veterinarians" to be discussed the following day. The hourlong sessions begin at 7 am.

To ensure an informal and productive setting, the sessions are limited to 50 veterinarians and veterinary students.

The Member Services Committee recommended that the Executive Board approve the pilot sessions, explaining that the sessions are the first step in addressing the committee's charge to develop a model mentorship program supporting veterinarians throughout all stages of their professional lives.

The sessions are also an opportunity to improve communication within the membership and throughout the profession.
