The AVMA Emergency Preparedness Plan provides the foundation for the Association's activities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters affecting animals and emergencies such as foreign animal disease outbreaks. The Executive Board has approved a revised plan.

The plan now includes tasking for a Veterinary Medical Assistance Team representative to serve with the National Disaster Medical Service's Management Support Team whenever the team is activated for a disaster that may include animal issues. The new plan also eliminates some provisions concerning VMAT organization.
