Online show highlights multiculturalism

An online program launched this past fall is dedicated to promoting diversity in the veterinary profession.

The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges debuted “Diversity & Inclusion on Air” as a way to deliver more diversity programming to a wider veterinary audience. It’s hosted by Lisa Greenhill, EdD, the AAVMC’s director of institutional research and diversity.

The program’s interviews and presentations cover a wide range of topics and feature guests from across the profession. The first episode had Dr. William Giles discussing the WisCARES Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison that aids pets of the homeless. The second episode brought on University of Sydney Faculty of Veterinary Science’s Dean Roseanne Taylor to talk about the school’s efforts to promote and increase diversity, including with Australia’s indigenous peoples.

As a partnership between the AAVMC and Veterinary Students as One in Culture and Ethnicity, the programming airs using Google Hangouts, a free, interactive online program. Viewers can access the program live, post questions, and engage in a chat room during the program. At the end, the session automatically uploads to the “DiVersity Matters at AAVMC” page on YouTube for later viewing.

The AAVMC’s “Diversity & Inclusion on Air” is also available as a podcast on iTunes for Apple devices and Stitcher for Android devices.
