The Executive Board approved revisions to the AVMA policy on congressional and Executive Branch fellows.

The new policy states:

AVMA POLICY
AVMA Fellows

The number of AVMA Fellows shall be up to three annually.

The Legislative Advisory Committee reviewed the policy on AVMA Congressional Science and Executive Branch Fellowships in accordance with the 5-year policy review directive. The LAC acknowledged the success of the fellowships and noted that the Governmental Relations Division received 24 applications for the 2010-2011 fellowship year, setting a record.

To give the GRD more flexibility in placing the fellows, the LAC recommended changing the policy to delete mention of the branches of government in which the fellows would serve. The committee believes this gives the AVMA greater flexibility in selecting and placing fellows.
