The AVMA announced in December 2009 it had hired Heather Jensen as assistant director of marketing in its Communications Division.

Jensen is responsible for overseeing the marketing strategy of the AVMA, including keeping it up-to-date with the Association's strategic goals, marketing the AVMA annual convention, and overseeing management, development, and distribution of educational materials to veterinarians and the public.

"The AVMA is the most well-respected veterinary body in the world, with an impressive membership base and extensive track record of service to its members and the general public," Jensen said. "I'm excited to join the team and help the AVMA continue to be a driving force in protecting and promoting the health and well-being of animals, humans, and the environment."

Jensen comes to the AVMA with more than 13 years of marketing experience, including almost a decade of service to the American Marketing Association.

From 2004-2007 she was the marketing manager at the AMA, where she developed and implemented a membership marketing communications strategy and worked with the board of directors, task force members, and councils to create and support that association's strategic goals.

More recently, Jensen was manager of global customer programs for public software company SPSS Inc., an IBM company.

"Heather has amassed a wealth of marketing experience from her many years working for the American Marketing Association. I am confident that her contributions toward furthering the strategic goals of the AVMA will be invaluable," said J.B. Hancock, director of the AVMA Communications Division.
