Sterling D. Clark

Dr. Clark (COL ’43), 86, Fowler, Colo., died April 25, 2008. Prior to retirement, he owned Clark Veterinary Services in Fowler and Otero Animal Clinic in Rocky Ford, Colo. Dr. Clark also served as veterinarian for the Fowler Auction Barn. A past president of the Colorado and Arkansas Valley VMAs, he was Colorado’s delegate to the AVMA from 1975-1978. Dr. Clark chaired the CVMA Large Animal and Sale Ring commissions and was a member of the Colorado Department of Agriculture Advisory Commission. In 1979, he received the CVMA Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Clark was an Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of major. Active in civic life, he twice served as mayor of Fowler and was a past president of the Colorado Municipal League. Susan M. Dietrich

Dr. Dietrich (KSU ’79), 54, La Canada, Calif., died March 18, 2008. She was a partner at La Canada Pet Clinic, where she practiced for the past 28 years. Dr. Dietrich was active with the Ronald McDonald House in Pasadena, Calif., receiving its Guiding Light Award. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 763 S. Leslie R. Douglas Jr.

Dr. Douglas (CAL ’56), 81, Arcata, Calif., died June 19, 2008. Retired since 1992, he co-established Arcata Animal Clinic in 1967. A distinguished life member and past president of the California VMA, he served on what is now known as the AVMA Council on Communications from 1988-1993. He also served on the Humboldt State University Foundation board of directors from 1979-1999.

Dr. Douglas received the UC-Davis Alumni Achievement Award in 1984. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and three daughters. Memorials may be made to the L.R. “Doc” Douglas Scholarship Fund, Humboldt Area Foundation, 373 Indianola Road, Bayside, CA 95524.

Dee R. Jenkins

Dr. Jenkins (TEX ’49), 86, Amarillo, Texas, died April 4, 2008. Prior to retirement in 1990, he practiced at Amarillo Veterinary Clinic and Western Animal Hospital in Amarillo for 40 years. Early in his career, Dr. Jenkins practiced in Texas at Colorado City and Brady. He was an honorary member of the Texas VMA and served on the board of directors of the Amarillo Christian Schools. Verlin A. Krabill

Dr. Krabill (GA ’53), 82, Frederick, Md., died May 20, 2008. Prior to retirement, he served as district veterinarian for the Georgia Poultry Laboratory in Dalton, Ga. Earlier, Dr. Krabill was a missionary in Brazil for 25 years. During that time, he served as veterinarian in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Dr. Krabill was named Honorary Citizen of Guanhaes, Brazil. He was a member of the Western Maryland and Brazilian VMAs. An Army veteran of World War II, Dr. Krabill received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and American Theater, European- African-Middle Eastern Theater, and WWII Victory ribbons.

He was a member of the Burkittsville Ruritan Club and Middletown Lions Club. Dr. Krabill is survived by two sons and a daughter. Memorials in his name may be made to the Middletown Lions Club, P.O. Earl W. Lohmeier

Dr. Lohmeier (OSU ’45), 87, West Chester, Ohio, died Feb. 4, 2008.

Howard P. Peterson

Dr. Peterson (IL ’56), 83, Fayetteville, Ark., died July 31, 2008. He was assistant professor emeritus of animal and poultry sciences at the University of Arkansas. During his tenure at the university, Dr. Peterson conducted research on large animal reproduction. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Dr. Peterson’s wife, Wanda; three daughters; and a son survive him. Memorials may be made to the Gospel Tract International/Baldwin Church of Christ, 4377 E. William C. Piper Jr.

Dr. Piper (OSU ’40), 91, Tavares, Fla., died March 1, 2008. He was the founder of Parma Animal Hospital in Parma, Ohio. Dr. Piper served in the Army Veterinary Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of captain. He was a past president of the Rotary Club of Parma. Dr. Piper is survived by his wife, Lucille, and three sons. His cousin, Dr. Richard C. Piper (OSU ’56), is a veterinarian in Whispering Pines, N.C.

Robert C. Reed

Dr. Reed (KSU ’44), 89, Fargo, N.D., died June 24, 2008. Prior to retirement in 1983, he served 15 years as assistant state veterinarian of North Dakota. Earlier in his career, Dr. Reed owned a practice in Hillsboro, N.D., for 24 years. He was a past president of the North Dakota VMA. A veteran of World War II, Dr. Reed served in the Army Veterinary Corps, attaining the rank of 2nd lieutenant. His wife, Alice; three daughters; and two sons survive him. Dr. Reed’s granddaughter, Dr. Brooke N. Milde (WIS ’05), is a veterinarian in Sauk City, Wis.
