Dr. Patricia Hogan (UP '92) is the 2008 winner of the Spirit of the Horse award from Rutgers University Equine Science Center. A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Dr. Hogan received publicity as the veterinarian responsible for saving the full eyesight of racehorse Smarty Jones, who later won the Kentucky Derby. She owns Hogan Equine surgery clinic in Cream Ridge, N.J.

 

Associations

 

Dr. Noah Cohen (UP '83) recently received the 2008 Schering-Plough Animal Health Applied Equine Research Award from the World Equine Veterinary Association. Dr. Cohen is a professor of large animal clinical sciences at Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. He has conducted extensive research in the field of equine neonatology and perinatology. Recently, he has focused his efforts on studying Rhodococcus equi foal pneumonia.

Dr. Ron Prestage (AUB '82) has received the 2008 Workhorse of the Year Award from the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association. Dr. Prestage has been a member of the association's board since 1997, and he has served as board chairman. He also is a past chairman of the National Turkey Federation and the South Carolina Poultry Federation. He is currently president of Prestage Farms of South Carolina.
