During the past 15 months, the AVMA has worked with Soundprints, a leading publisher of educational children's books, to create a series of pet stories targeted to children from preschool to second grade. The first four stories in the "Pet Tales" series are now complete and being distributed to bookstores, libraries, grade schools, and other outlets around the country.

The AVMA logo appears inside each book, along with pet health/safety tips and information about the Association.

The "Pet Tales" stories have been approved for Accelerated Reader programs and will introduce young readers and their parents and teachers to the AVMA and the importance of veterinary care to keep pets healthy.

The AVMA will receive royalties from a portion of the book sales. AVMA members may purchase the children's books as gifts for their families, friends, clients, or community libraries at reduced prices. A full-page ad on page 474 of this issue lists book titles and ordering information. Contact Soundprints at (800) 577-2413 for additional information about prices and availability.

Several more stories are under development as part of the five-year, joint project between Soundprints and the AVMA.
