The Executive Board approved the following policy concerning back-to-back designation as the host city for the AVMA Annual Convention:

No city may be designated as the host city for consecutive AVMA Annual Conventions within a particular zone.

AVMA Bylaws stipulate that when determining the location of each annual convention, the United States is to be divided into three zones—East, Central, and West—and a city within these zones is to be selected once every three years.

Recent Needs Assessment Surveys indicate that AVMA members favor retaining the current zone rotation schedule.

Rotating through the zones provides an opportunity to bring the AVMA Annual Convention closer to all AVMA members and provides a yearly venue change that is unique and fresh.

The AVMA had no policy preventing a city selected to host a convention from bidding to host the convention during the eligible zone rotation immediately following that city's hosting of the meeting.

The Convention Management and Program Committee recommended the policy to prevent this from happening.
