The nomination deadline to participate in the Candidate Introductory Breakfast in July 2017 was April 1, 2017. However, nominations will be accepted for this position until July 10, 2018.
According to the Bylaws and the House of Delegates Manual, candidates for election to the office of President-Elect must have met the following requirements:
No candidate for one of these offices may run for any other office simultaneously. An individual who is serving on any AVMA entity (e.g., Board of Directors, House of Delegates, council, or committee) at the time of election must relinquish his or her seat on that entity when assuming office.

The president-elect, and when necessary, the president are elected at each annual session of the House of Delegates. The terms of the president and president-elect commence at the first regular meeting of the Board of Directors following the close of the annual session of the House of Delegates at which they were elected. The president-elect immediately and automatically succeeds to the office of president at the end of the term as president-elect. The president automatically succeeds to the office of immediate past president at the end of the term as President.
