Veal calf management

UNDER REVIEW

The AVMA supports modern veal calf production practices that meet the welfare and health needs of calves. These practices include, but are not limited to, group housing that allows calves to assume normal postures and express natural behaviors, footing that supports soundness, and feeding of balanced rations that include milk, fiber, and grain components. Appropriate and ongoing training for people handling and working with veal calves is critical to ensure that they are able to provide and promote good welfare within the management system being used.
