Integrated pest management

The AVMA supports science-based integrated pest management (IPM) programs and practices by pest management professionals, veterinarians and their clients, and by the general public. IPM is a component of One Health. IPM includes the coordinated use of pest and environmental information along with appropriate available pest control methods (physical, structural, mechanical, biological, chemical) to prevent unacceptable damage by pests and pesticide resistance while minimizing the risk to people, animals, the environment, non-target species, and property. Promotion and use of science-based, environmentally responsible practices aim to ensure viable ecosystems for future generations.
