Accredited veterinarian utilization and program resources
The AVMA affirms the indispensable contribution of accredited veterinarians to safeguarding animal and public health. Accredited veterinarians recognize and report high consequence emerging, foreign, or zoonotic animal diseases; verify health and traceability for animal movement; participate in state and federal disease control and/or eradication programs; and serve as critical resources for emergency response.
Continuing education is essential for accredited veterinarians to stay updated on evolving best practices for management of livestock and other species. The AVMA encourages the USDA to continue to devote sufficient resources to administer the National Veterinary Accreditation Program, including ensuring continuing education through training modules and other necessary means, and updating such educational content as needed.
