Program

The convention drew more than 200 veterinarians and veterinary technicians. The SDVMA Alliance raised close to $10,000 in a benefit auction. The money will be used toward scholarships for veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Dr. Chris Chase
Dr. Chase

Distinguished Service Award
Dr. Chris Chase (Iowa State ’80), Brookings. Dr. Chase is a professor in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at South Dakota State University and co-founder and president of Research, Technology, Innovation, an animal health contract research organization. A diplomate and a past president of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists, he is known for his expertise in bovine immunology and virology. Dr. Chase is a past president of the South Dakota VMA, American Association of Veterinary Immunologists, and Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases; a past chair of the AVMA Council on Biologics and Therapeutic Agents; and the South Dakota delegate in the AVMA House of Delegates. He helped establish the South Dakota Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine in conjunction with the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Holly Roe-Johnson

Veterinarian of the Year
Dr. Holly Roe-Johnson (Iowa State ’97), Hosmer. Dr. Roe-Johnson owns Hosmer Veterinary Clinic, a rural practice with locations in four communities. She is a past president of the South Dakota Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and has served as a district representative for the SDVMA.

Emerging Leader Award
Dr. Jamie Zuidema (Iowa State ’14), Harrisburg. Dr. Zuidema is co-owner of Dakota Large & Small Animal Clinic in Harrisburg, where she practices equine medicine.

Debra Buttke
Debra Buttke

Outstanding Veterinary Technician
Debra Buttke, Milbank. Buttke works at Homestead Animal Health in Milbank. She is known for her dedication, passion, and compassion.

Trudy Lickfelt
Trudy Lickfelt

Bill Davis Memorial Award
Trudy Lickfelt, Glencoe, Minnesota, won this award, given to a representative of a veterinary supply company who has demonstrated an unusual degree of service and assistance to veterinarians and to the veterinary profession in South Dakota. Lickfelt works for MWI Animal Health. She is known for her dedication and enthusiasm toward the success of her clients and for her knowledge of products and industry programs.
