In this position, Dr. Thomson will use her scientific expertise to advise on animal welfare, antibiotic resistance, disaster preparedness and response, and climate and land use policies.

Dr. Thomson is an experienced veterinary practitioner who has worked most recently as a small animal relief veterinarian in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has also performed extensive volunteer work, including serving as a head veterinarian for the California Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps during the 2018 Camp Fire.

The fellowship program is sponsored through the American Association for the Advancement of Science, which works to place qualified scientific experts in congressional offices where they are needed. The AVMA provides funding for the program. To date, more than 67 veterinarians have participated in the AVMA Fellowship Program.
