The Oregon VMA (OVMA) held its Oregon Veterinary Conference virtually from March 31-April 2.

Industry Representative Award

Dr. Bobby Cowles
Dr. Bobby Cowles

Dr. Bobby Cowles (Kansas State '96), Ridgefield, Washington, won this award, recognizing an individual from allied industry who has exhibited outstanding service to the OVMA and the veterinary profession. Dr. Cowles is managing veterinarian of equine technical services at Zoetis. During the 2020 wildfire season in Oregon, he worked with the American Association of Equine Practitioners and with local practices to obtain and deliver medical supplies for displaced and injured animals throughout the state.

President's Award

Dr. Kate Schoenhals
Dr. Kate Schoenhals

Dr. Kate Schoenhals (Oregon State '12), Corvallis. Dr. Schoenhals is a field services veterinarian at Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine. She helped create the Oregon State veterinary college's Disaster Action Management Team, providing disaster response training and education to veterinarians, veterinary support staff, and veterinary students.

Business

Discussions were held and updates were provided on the Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, enhancement of animal cruelty laws, and support for the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Other topics of discussion included disaster preparedness, volunteer opportunities, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
