The AVMA Political Action Committee (PAC) honored Dr. Timothy Montgomery posthumously (see obituary) with its George Bishop PAC Award. This is given to an individual for efforts to advance the PAC’s strategic goals through monetary contributions, fundraising, or political support.

The award, previously known as the Russell Anthony Impact Award, was recently renamed by the PAC board in recognition of the late Dr. George Bishop who held leadership roles on the PAC (see obituary). The committee is also holding a fundraising challenge this summer in honor of Dr. Bishop with a goal to raise more than $75,000, equaling the amount contributed by Dr. Bishop to the PAC during his lifetime.

Dr. Montgomery, a small animal practitioner from Georgia, served on the PAC board from 2018-22. He played a vital role in raising funds for the PAC and reached out to AVMA leaders and past contributors to rebuild support for the committee. Dr. Montgomery also served on the former AVMA Governance Performance Review Committee from 2009-15, chairing it in 2011, and was a member of the AVMA House Advisory Committee from 2013-16, chairing it in 2015.

A longtime member of the Georgia VMA (GVMA), he served as GVMA president from 1999-2000 and was Georgia’s delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates (HOD) from 2007-16. Dr. Montgomery also helped rewrite the Georgia Veterinary Practice Act.
