Massachusetts VMA – Oct. 16, 2022

The Massachusetts VMA held a celebration on Oct. 16 in Millis to honor the recipients of its Distinguished Service Award and Merit Award.

Dr. Al Andersen (Michigan State ’74), Medfield, won the Distinguished Service Award, given in recognition of his exemplary service and dedication to the veterinary profession, the education of students, and organized veterinary medicine locally and nationwide. Dr. Anderson owned a mobile equine practice for more than 40 years and led animal sciences at Norfolk County Agricultural High School for 20 years. A past president of the MVMA, he has served as the MVMA’s delegate and alternate delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates.

Dr. Yoanna Maitre (Tufts ’02), Lenox, and Paula Pippin-Miller, Salem, won the Merit Award. A diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Dr. Maitre owns Berkshire Ambulatory Veterinary Services, a large animal mobile practice. She was honored for her commitment to animals in disasters in Massachusetts and across the country. Pippin-Miller is a certified veterinary technician and works at The Feline Hospital in Salem. She was recognized for her commitment to animals, the veterinary profession, and the education of veterinary technology students.
