Employment, starting salaries, and educational indebtedness of year-2012 graduates of US veterinary medical colleges
SUMMARY: In a survey of veterinary medical students expected to graduate in spring 2012, mean full-time anticipated starting salary for those who had accepted an employment position after graduation was $45,575, a decrease of 3.0%, compared with mean value for 2011 graduates. Mean educational debt for the 89.2% of respondents with debt was $151,672, an increase of 6.4%, compared with the value for respondents to the 2011 survey.

SUMMARY: In a survey of year-2011 graduates of US veterinary medical colleges, mean starting salary for those individuals who had accepted an offer of employment (all types of employers combined) was $46,971. Excluding salaries for graduates pursuing advanced study, mean full-time starting salary was $66,469. Mean educational debt for the 89.6% of respondents with debt was $142,613, whereas mean debt for all respondents was $127,713.

When salaries for graduates pursuing advanced study were eliminated, mean starting salary was $61,633. Mean educational debt among those with debt was $119,803.

SUMMARY: Mean full-time starting salary for year-2007 graduates of US veterinary medical colleges was $46,129, but was $57,969 when individuals entering advanced study programs were not included. Overall, 89.6% of respondents had debt at the time of graduation. Mean educational debt among graduates with debt was $106,959, which represented an increase of 6.1% compared with year-2006 graduates.

SUMMARY: In a survey of year-2011 graduates of US veterinary medical colleges, mean starting salary for male respondents who had accepted a full-time position was $53,868, whereas mean starting salary for female respondents was $44,740. When salaries for positions in advanced education were excluded, the mean salary increased to $70,245 for males and $64,794 for females.
