“The mAbulous Monoclonal Antibodies”

Dr. Jennifer Reinhart Dungar will cover biology and mechanism of action of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), how mAbs are made, and how they differ from traditional drugs. Specific products discussed will include Cytopoint (lokivetmab), Solensia (frunevetmab), Librela (bednivetmab), the canine parvovirus mAb, and upcoming mAb therapies for small animal tumors.
“Climate Change, Agriculture, and Human Health”

The session by Dr. Jay Levine will provide an introduction to the factors contributing to climate change and its potential risks to agriculture, global food security, and human health. He will describe ongoing mitigation and adaptation strategies as well.
“The Buzz on Bee Toxicology”
1-1:50 p.m., room 9AB
As beekeeping becomes more popular in cities, greater information is come out on unique urban and industrial toxicants that can affect bees and honey production. Also, because bees are food-producing animals, exposure to toxicants impacts the human food chain. Dr. Karyn L Bischoff will review the potential impacts of pesticides and other xenobiotics on hive health, common residues that contaminate honey, and what samples should be submitted for diagnostic toxicology testing.
“Considering a Career Transition: Your ‘Why’ Should Come Before Your ‘What’”

Amanda Fark will identify the variety of reasons of why someone considers a new position or career path as well as help attendees describe personal pain points within their current roles and analyze reasons why they may be considering new roles.

VetArtNow 2.0 artists’ panel

VetArtNow is an organization co-founded by Drs. Jolle Kirpensteijn, Ken Gorczyca, and John Plishka, to unite veterinary professionals who create art and support veterinary wellbeing through art. For the second year, the organization is holding an art auction of 21 original works from members of VetArtNow. All proceeds will benefit the American Veterinary Medical Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund. People can bid for artwork until noon on Monday.
Street Dog Coalition clinic
11 a.m.-3 p.m., Cowboy Lot
Volunteers will provide free medical care and other services to pets of people experiencing—or at risk of—homelessness around Austin, Texas. The event is held in partnership with The Street Dog Coalition and sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Merck Animal Health, and Western Veterinary Partners.
“DEI Legends” panel discussion
2-2:30 p.m., Exhibit Hall Center Stage
Patricia Lowrie, a longtime advocate for DEI in veterinary medicine, will interview Drs. Ruby Perry, Willie Reed, Phillip Nelson, and Michael Blackwell, who are current or former deans of veterinary colleges. They will discuss their experiences in veterinary medicine as minorities and leading the charge for diversity. Immediately after, at 2:30 p.m., the Unsung Heroes awards will be given out at Center Stage, in which the AVMA will honor six veterinary team members from Texas.
AVMA Concert featuring Brothers Osborne
6:30-9:30 p.m., Stubbs BBQ
Grammy award-winning country duo Brothers are known as one of country music's freshest and most consistently adventurous bands. John and T.J. Osborne have been performing together their entire lives. Since hitting the Nashville scene with their identifiable blend of country and rock, the brothers have been nominated for 12 Grammys in total and stand as six-time Country Music Association's Vocal Duo of the Year and four-time Academy of Country Music's Duo of the Year. Tickets are $5 for adults, and children under 18 get in for free. The concert is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim.
