Awards
Meritorious Service Award
Dr. Karla Brestle (North Carolina State ’93), Asheville, North Carolina. Dr. Brestle has worked more than 25 years for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Spay/Neuter Alliance in Asheville, where she now serves as senior director of training and programs. She has formulated and implemented high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter (HQHVSN) protocols that have transformed spay and neuter practices and ensured effectiveness and evidence-based methodologies.
Veterinarian of the Year
Dr. Rebecca Fellman (Cornell ’16), Boston. Dr. Fellman serves as the lead clinician of community and shelter services at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. She has led initiatives that have enhanced access to essential veterinary services for thousands of animals, revolutionized shelter medicine practices, addressed medical barriers to adoption, and established community outreach programs. Dr. Fellman helped found a trap-neuter-vaccinate-return program in collaboration with the Berkeley County Animal Center in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
