Council on Education open positions

Applications are being accepted for AVMA members to fill two volunteer positions on the AVMA Council on Education® (AVMA COE®).

  • Private equine practice: An individual whose veterinary endeavor is exclusively private equine practice will serve a six-year term beginning in July 2025.
  • Private clinical practice: An individual whose veterinary endeavor is exclusively private clinical practice will begin serving immediately after appointment, to fill an expired term that runs 2025-2030.

Applications for both positions are due no later than March 15, 2025. All applicants must be AVMA members.

The AVMA COE® is recognized as the accrediting body for schools that offer the professional DVM degree or its equivalent in the United States and Canada. The council also accredits other foreign programs. The council encourages and assists colleges of veterinary medicine in meeting the requirements for accreditation, thus maintaining and advancing veterinary education, the basis for the veterinary profession.

Volunteers who serve in these positions will have the opportunity to work with a committed group of practitioners, academicians, and public members to help ensure the quality of education students receive at AVMA COE®-accredited schools. All of the appointments will be made by the AVMA COE® Selection Committee.
