Council on Education open positions
Applications will open in 2024 for three positions on the AVMA Council on Education® (AVMA COE®).
The AVMA COE® is recognized as the accrediting body for schools that offer the professional DVM degree or its equivalent in the United States and Canada. The council also accredits other foreign programs. The council encourages and assists colleges of veterinary medicine in meeting the requirements for accreditation, thus maintaining and advancing veterinary education, the basis for the veterinary profession.
AVMA COE® members
Three positions will be available to fill expiring terms on the AVMA COE®. Applicants appointed to these positions will have the opportunity to work with a committed group of practitioners, academicians, and public members to help ensure the quality of education students receive at AVMA COE®-accredited schools. All of the appointments will be made by the AVMA COE® Selection Committee.
Applications will be available from January 15, 2024, through March 15, 2024. All applicants for these positions must be AVMA members.

AVMA COE® site visitors sought
For veterinarians interested in becoming a veterinary college site visitor, applications will open December 15, 2023, and run through January 15, 2024.
The AVMA COE® provides training to all volunteers before they take part in site visits, and all applicants must be available for the 2024 training session, which will be conducted September 20-22, 2024, in Schaumburg, Illinois.
Veterinarians engaged in all facets of veterinary medicine are encouraged to apply. The work performed by site visitors is integral to the AVMA COE’s ongoing process of accrediting and reviewing the education provided by veterinary medical colleges.
Site visitors review a college’s self-study, verify its information during a comprehensive visit to the college, and submit a report to the AVMA COE®. They make recommendations to the council but do not attend council meetings, discuss findings, or otherwise participate in accreditation decisions.
