AVMA is currently seeking volunteers to fill the following positions. As a volunteer, your travel, lodging, and meals are covered by the AVMA.

AVMA Board of Directors

DISTRICT 6 SPECIAL ELECTION: NOMINATIONS DUE FEBRUARY 14, 2025, WITH TERM BEGINNING APRIL 2025

Nominations are open for candidates to represent District 6 on the Board of Directors to fill an unexpired term. District 6 includes the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

The new director will take office in April 2025 to fill the unexpired term ending in July 2029. Nominations are due February 14, 2025, and voting will be conducted March 17-April 11, 2025.

To assist delegates and alternate delegates in choosing individuals for officer, HAC, and council positions, AVMA staff will prepare a yearly campaign guide listing nominees for these positions. Nominees will be included only if they have provided an appropriate biographical sketch and photograph, and submitted an application or nomination form by the May 1 deadline. Council nominees must also submit a link to a two-minute introductory YouTube video.

Nominations received after the deadline will be announced from the floor of the House. However, information regarding these candidates is limited to the information contained on the nomination form.

For AVMA president-elect for the 2026-2027 association year, the nomination deadline to formally announce candidacy and present to the House of Delegates is May 29, 2025. After that, nominations will continue to be accepted for this position until July 6, 2026.

For AVMA vice president for the 2026-28 association years, the nomination deadline to formally announce candidacy and present to the House of Delegates is May 29, 2025. After that, nominations will continue to be accepted for this position until July 6, 2026.

House Advisory Committee

Nominations due May 1, 2025

The House Advisory Committee (HAC) is composed of seven delegates and/or alternate delegates elected by the House of Delegates for a three-year term. Members are eligible for a second, consecutive three-year term. Among its responsibilities, the HAC acts in a leadership capacity to the House of Delegates on all matters referred to the House of Delegates' reference committees; acts as the Bylaws committee for the House of Delegates; and reviews and approves the credentials of candidates for president-elect, vice president, councils, the HAC, and, when necessary, the president.

The HAC usually meets 12 times per year—twice during the AVMA Convention, once immediately prior to the Veterinary Leadership Conference, once each in the fall and spring, and seven times via videoconference.

American Board of Veterinary Specialties position

The AVMA is seeking non-board-certified AVMA members to fill three positions on the American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS), representing non-specialized veterinary medicine.

NOMINATIONS DUE MARCH 15, 2025

Applications are being accepted from AVMA members interested in filling two volunteer positions on the AVMA Council on Education® (AVMA COE®), one representing private equine practice and one representing private clinical practice.
