AVMA volunteer opportunities - Vacancies

AVMA is currently seeking volunteers to fill the following positions. As a volunteer, your travel, lodging, and meals are covered by the AVMA.

Dr. Sam Miller has been elected as District VIII Director and will take office in August 2021.

Committee positions

Nominations due date is March 31, 2021 for positions to be appointed during April 2021 BOD meeting

Nominations for unfilled positions are accepted until the positions are filled at a subsequent BOD meeting.

Nominations due date is May 1, 2021 for positions to be appointed during HOD Annual Session.

To assist delegates and alternate delegates in choosing individuals for officer, HAC, and council positions, the AVMA OEVP will prepare a yearly campaign guide listing nominees for these positions. Nominees will be included only if they have provided an appropriate biographical sketch and photograph, and submitted an application or nomination form by the May 1 deadline. Council nominees must also submit a link to a 2-minute introductory YouTube video.

Nominations received after the deadline will be announced from the floor of the House; however, information regarding these candidates is limited to the information contained on the nomination form.

AVMA officers

President-elect (2022-2023)

Nominations accepted until April 1, 2021 to present to the house of delegates in July 2021.

Nominations are being accepted for candidates for the position of AVMA president-elect for the August 2022 – August 2023 association year.

American Board of Veterinary Specialties positions

Nominations are due on March 31, 2021, with terms beginning JULY 2021.

The AVMA is seeking volunteers to serve as members representing non-board certified veterinarians on the American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS). Two positions are open.

Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) positions

Nomination due dates are ending February 5, 2021.

Volunteers will be invited to serve on AVMA's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA). Three positions will be open in 2021:

  • Representing veterinary technicians
  • Representing the public
  • Representing veterinary state boards (veterinarian or veterinary technician)

The CVTEA selects public representatives, and the CVTEA Selection Committee selects all other open positions.

Applications are due February 5, 2021. Interviews with the CVTEA Selection Committee will be held March 18-19, 2021. Terms begin July 2021.

Council on Education (COE) positions

APPLICATIONS FOR NON-PRIVATE, NON-ACADEMIC VETERINARY MEDICINE are DUE ON MARCH 15 WITH TERMS BEGINNING AUGUST 2021.

Two positions will be appointed to fill expiring terms on AVMA’s Council on Education: Basic Science (filled by the AAVMC COE Selection Committee – contact the AAVMC for information) and Non-Private, Non-Academic Veterinary Medicine. Applications will be available after January 15, 2021.
