AVMA volunteer opportunities - Vacancies

AVMA is currently seeking volunteers to fill the following positions. As a volunteer, your travel, lodging, and meals are covered by the AVMA.

To assist delegates and alternate delegates in choosing individuals for officer, HAC, and council positions, the AVMA OEVP will prepare a yearly campaign guide listing nominees for these positions. Nominees will be included only if they have provided an appropriate biographical sketch and photograph, and submitted an application or nomination form by the May 1 deadline. Council nominees must also submit a link to a two-minute introductory YouTube video.

Nominations received after the deadline will be announced from the floor of the House. However, information regarding these candidates is limited to the information contained on the nomination form.

AVMA officers

President-elect (2022-2023)

NOMINATIONS accepted until July 25, 2022

For AVMA president-elect for the 2022-2023 association year, the nomination deadline to formally announce candidacy and present to the House of Delegates has passed. However, nominations will be accepted for this position until July 25, 2022.

The nomination deadline to formally announce candidacy for AVMA vice president for the period August 2022-June 2024 has passed. However, nominations will continue to be accepted for this position until July 25, 2022.

Treasurer (2023-2029)

NOMINATIONS ACCEPTED UNTIL AUGUST 15, 2022

Nominations are open for candidates for the position of AVMA treasurer for the 2023-2029 term. Candidates should file nominating materials no later than August 15, 2022, to be reviewed by the Board of Directors at its September meeting.

President-elect (2023-2024)

NOMINATIONS ACCEPTED UNTIL JULY 10, 2023

Nominations are open for candidates for the position of AVMA president-elect for the 2023-2024 association year. Candidates need to file nominating materials no later than April 1, 2022, in order to formally announce their candidacy and present to the AVMA House of Delegates at its July 2022 meeting.

American Board of Veterinary Specialties positions

Nominations ongoing, with terms beginning july 2022

The AVMA is seeking volunteers to serve as members representing non-board certified veterinarians on the American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS). One position is open.

Council on Education (COE) positions

Applications ongoing, with terms beginning August 2022

Four positions will be appointed to fill expiring terms on AVMA’s Council on Education:

  • Postgraduate education and American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (filled by the AAVMC Selection COE Selection Committee – contact the AAVMC for information)
  • Public member (appointed by the AVMA Council on Education – contact agondaatavma [dot] org for information)
  • Private mixed clinical practice

Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) positions

NOMINATIONS DUE June 24, 2022

Volunteers will be invited to serve on AVMA's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA). One position is open to fulfill an unexpired term 2022-2025.

  • Representing clinical veterinary medicine, large animal (veterinarian)

The CVTEA selects public representatives, and the CVTEA Selection Committee selects all other open positions.

Applications are due June 24, 2022. Interviews with the CVTEA Selection Committee will be held week of July 11-15, 2022. Applicants will receive information on interview scheduling on or before July 1, 2022. Terms begin August 2022.
