As an educator, AVMA’s classroom resources help you develop and present practical courses that support the core competencies students need to learn in veterinary school.

• Model animal welfare course syllabus – A customizable template that you can use to develop individual lectures, sections of existing courses, or standalone courses of varying credit hours
• Online educator community – A place for veterinary faculty members to connect with peers, contribute to faculty-specific discussions, and explore curated resources in special areas of interest – open to all veterinary faculty with advanced degrees (DVM, Ph.D., etc.) at AVMA-accredited institutions.

AVMA’s advocacy work protects and supports a wide range of programs that affect both educators and students:

The AVMA Animal Health Studies Database connects clinical investigators with veterinarians and owners of animals that are potential study participants. It’s a registry and results database of publicly and privately supported veterinary clinical studies in the U.S. and Canada. The database also accepts other prospective clinical studies, and epidemiologic/survey type studies.

The AVMA Council on Education (COE) and Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) apply rigorous standards for veterinary programs and students. With COE and CVTEA oversight, the profession can remain confident in the quality of veterinary education and the value of the veterinary medical degree.
