Remembering the Heroes of 9/11

Published on August 31, 2011
information-circle This article is more than 3 years old

The following photographs were provided by members of the canine search-and-rescue teams and AVMA Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams deployed in response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Most are grainy or out of focus, others are underexposed. Many freeze the frenetic activity at what remained of the World Trade Center, providing a glimpse of the human and canine responders at work—and rest—amid the devastation as well as those who cared for them. The series also illustrates the powerful bond between the dogs and their handlers.
