The 2021 summary for the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program for the first time includes gender and racial identity data on the 2,309 applicants. The program is sponsored by the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians. The data show the following.

Program director Dr. Roger Fingland said the AAVC has formed a committee to study the findings on the demographics of applicants, which he described as quite similar to the demographics of applicants through the Veterinary Medical College Application Service managed by the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges.

“We want to work with AAVMC to compare VMCAS and VIRMP data and see what determinations can be made from that,” said Dr. Fingland, who is also executive associate dean at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

The AAVC has posted the matching summaries online since 2014.
