Members of the AVMA Board of Directors elected Drs. Rena Carlson and Lori Teller as Board chair and vice chair, respectively, while meeting in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 4.

Dr. Carlson is a 1989 graduate of Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine and co-owner of a mixed animal practice in Pocatello, Idaho. She has served on several AVMA entities, including the Early Career Development Committee and Food Safety Advisory Committee, and currently chairs the Legislative Advisory Committee.

She represented Idaho in the AVMA House of Delegates from 2004-14, when AVMA members in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming elected her District XI representative to the AVMA Board.

Between working on the family cattle ranch and working closely with the partners and associate veterinarians in her practice, Dr. Carlson remains connected to the large animal aspect of veterinary medicine.

Since 2015, Dr. Teller has been the Board representative for District VIII, representing AVMA members living in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, where she is a clinical associate professor of telehealth.

Dr. Teller chairs the AVMA State Advocacy Committee and was a member of the AVMA Opioid Working Group and the AVMA Task Force on Governance and Membership Participation.
