Looking for a job—or an employee—in the veterinary profession just got a little easier.

The Veterinary Career Network is hosting its first online career fair, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday, Sept. 27.

The AVMA developed the Veterinary Career Network to allow veterinary associations and colleges to share job postings across their career centers. Advertisements listed networkwide with a VCN partner are listed automatically on all the VCN partners' career centers at no extra charge. The network currently extends to the AVMA Veterinary Career Center and the career centers of five other national associations, 31 state associations, 25 veterinary colleges, and two veterinary technology schools.

"The purpose of the online career fair is to provide an efficient and convenient way to connect employers and job seekers from the comfort of their own homes or offices," said Dr. Patricia Wohlferth-Bethke, manager of veterinary career services in the AVMA Membership and Field Services Division. One hundred employers from across the country had signed up for the fair as of Aug. 22.

Employers will schedule chat times for all or part of the four-hour fair. Job seekers who express interest in employers will wait in virtual lines to chat with those employers. Positions are available in the following categories: veterinarian, relief veterinarian, medical director, extern, intern, veterinary technician, veterinary assistant, practice manager, hospital administrator, and other.

CareerEco is holding the fair. Registration is $350 per employer and free for job seekers.

The individual associations hosting the fair are the AVMA, American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Animal Hospital Association, Connecticut VMA, Rhode Island VMA, Nevada VMA, and Veterinary Hospital Managers Association.
