The AVMA has revamped its discount program to meet the professional and personal needs of AVMA and Student AVMA members across generations.

That’s according to Jodie Taggett, the Association’s director of partnerships and program development. She said, "The AVMA will negotiate the best deals for our members on the front end and pass on savings for valuable services and products."

As of mid-January, the Association planned to launch AVMA Member Edge in late January or early February. The Association is working with Peritus Affinity Partners on the program.

AVMA Member Edge offers financial and business resources as well as other professional and personal resources. The program links into the Association’s insurance trusts: AVMA Life, which provides life insurance and other coverage, and the AVMA PLIT, which provides professional liability insurance and other coverage.

Taggett said the Association sought to develop a program that is meaningful and valuable to members, whatever their area of professional focus. The Association took steps to streamline and build on the existing discount program, with a focus on ease of use.

AVMA Member Edge offers tangible benefits for members, said Dr. Marci Kirk, assistant director for recent graduate initiatives in the AVMA Membership and Field Services Division. With various associations and organizations vying to sign up recent graduates, the program is another reason for new veterinarians to join the AVMA.

One of the program resources is refinancing of student loans. AVMA Life provides the service via Credible, with a range of options to allow for the best fit. Another program resource is practice loans through Bank of America Practice Solutions, including loans for veterinarians who are just getting started on practice ownership.

Looking at practitioners as business owners, the Association has incorporated a range of business resources—from office products to credit card processing—into AVMA Member Edge.

Bankers Healthcare Group is introducing the AVMA Power Mastercard to meet members’ business and personal financial needs, with double rewards points for spending on continuing education, member dues, equipment, and conference registrations.

In the category of entertainment, AVMA Member Edge offers a 40 percent discount at most major movie theaters and discounts on most major theme parks, including Disney parks; Las Vegas and Broadway show tickets; hotels and rental cars; and gift cards for major and specialty retailers. These universal perks can be used as performance incentives and rewards for practice teams as well.

Taggett said, "The AVMA will continue to assess member needs and review metrics along with overall value of partnerships as the program evolves."

The Association plans on accepting applications for review each year in June for new products and services to add to the list of offerings.
