2016 NVTW posterNational Veterinary Technician Week will be celebrated Oct. 16-22 this year with the theme “Veterinary Nursing in Action.”

Veterinary technicians are critical to the day-to-day function of veterinary practices and play vital roles in preserving animal health and welfare. National Veterinary Technician Week, first celebrated in 1993, takes place the third week of October each year. This week is meant to honor technicians’ commitment to compassionate, high-quality veterinary care for all animals. It is sponsored by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America and Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

Clinics and animal hospitals are encouraged to educate the public about these vital members of the veterinary medical team by advertising the week through events such as open houses, proclamations from local elected officials, or special posters that are available through NAVTA.

This year’s theme speaks to the diversity veterinary technicians experience and animals they treat in the veterinary profession, whether covered in feathers, fur, scales, or simply skin.
