Graves promoted to dean at Midwestern
Dr. Thomas K. Graves (Cornell ’91) took the helm at Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine in Glendale, Arizona, this summer. Since December 2013 he had served as professor of internal medicine and associate dean for clinical education, then briefly as interim dean from April 4 to July 1.
Dr. Graves is an American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine–certified specialist in small animal internal medicine. He also has a doctorate from the University of Rochester in pharmacology.
His clinical interests include endocrine and metabolic diseases and canine and feline geriatrics.
Prior to working at Midwestern, Dr. Graves spent 11 years at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, first as a professor of internal medicine and then as director of its Chicago Center for Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Graves is also an accomplished musician. He studied piano performance at Arizona State University from 1975-1978 and music at City University of New York-Hunter College from 1984-1987.
He switches positions with Dr. Brian Sidaway (Mississippi State ’98), who is now associate dean of clinical operations. Dr. Sidaway was the first veterinarian hired by Midwestern, when the veterinary program launched in 2012—first as associate dean and then as dean. He was instrumental in obtaining state of Arizona licensure for the new program as well as completing a comprehensive self-study for the college and initiating curriculum development.
Dr. Sidaway, a native of Biloxi, Mississippi, is a former director of the Arizona VMA and has 15 years of veterinary practice and education experience across five states. Prior to his arrival at Midwestern, Dr. Sidaway practiced as a veterinary surgeon in Louisiana.
