The AVMA has issued its Guidelines for the Humane Slaughter of Animals. The guidelines address humane slaughter
of animal species included in the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act or the Poultry Products Inspection Act. They
also deal with animal species not covered by the HMSA, such as fish, rabbits, and alligators, as well as aspects
of religious slaughter exempt from federal oversight. For a PDF of the guidelines, go here.
