Awards: Lifetime Meritorious Achievement Award: Dr. David Harling, Greensboro, for professional and civic lifetime achievement, career contributions to organized veterinary medicine, and continued leadership with the NCVMA and AVMA. A 1955 graduate of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, Dr. Harling began his career in small animal practice in Buffalo, New York. He later served as an Army veterinarian, established a small animal practice with a focus on ophthalmology in Greensboro, and was an adjunct professor of ophthalmology at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Most recently, Dr. Harling practiced at Animal Eye Care of Reidsville. He is a past president of the NCVMA and helped establish the NCSU veterinary college. Distinguished Veterinarian: Dr. Katherine E. Queck, Charlotte, for professional and civic achievement and career contributions to organized veterinary medicine. A 1986 graduate of Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Queck owns The Carolinas Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic. She is a fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry, chairs the NCVMA Ethics and Grievances Committee, and is a past chair of the AVD Credentials Committee. Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. Karen L. Davis, Flat Rock. A 1980 graduate of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Davis practices at North State Animal Hospital in Hendersonville. She is a past president of the NCVMA and serves as its delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates.
