The AVMA Council on Education is looking to fill three open positions.

The COE Selection Committee is seeking applicants for two positions that are currently vacant—private equine practice (2013-2019) and nonprivate, nonacademic veterinary medicine (2009-2015)—and for one position for which the term ends at the end of June—private small animal clinical practice (2014-2020).

Candidates must be AVMA members who are able to invest a minimum of 14 days annually away from home, with additional preparation time for meetings or other council business, be able to travel nationally and possibly internationally with a valid passport, provide a signed statement of confidentiality, and sign an agreement to abide by the COE Code of Conduct.

Anyone interested must provide a curriculum vitae and fill out an application form, which is posted here.

The deadline to apply is May 1; selection of the appointees will take place early this summer.

The process for appointing council members changed in July 2013, with the AVMA and Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges sharing this responsibility. Under the newly approved method, the AVMA and AAVMC developed separate selection committees that select eight and seven COE members, respectively. In addition, the three public members on the council will continue to be elected by the COE, the Canadian representative will continue to be appointed by the Canadian VMA, and a veterinarian (formerly “liaison”) will continue to be appointed by the AAVMC.
