Veterinarians star in videos on farm practices
A recently released series of videos lets viewers watch veterinarians check cows for pregnancy, deliver a pig, or drive on snowy roads on the way to examining young pigs.
The videos are part of the "Veterinarians on Call" series, which is available at www.youtube.com/user/veterinariansoncall. They are sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health. A company statement indicates the videos are intended to show the public the value of efforts by veterinarians and farmers to care for livestock. The company had released seven videos by press time.
Dr. Angela M. Supple of Algona, Iowa, was filmed while driving on snow-dusted roads to a client's pig nursery. She said she was happy to participate in the videos, which she thinks provide a positive portrayal of the pork industry and veterinary profession. She expressed hope that the series will educate the public about the care provided to pigs daily and the work done by veterinarians and producers to provide safe, healthy food.
