George T. Barrows

Dr. Barrows (MO '57), 79, Kansas City, Mo., died April 24, 2011. A small animal practitioner, he founded Platte Woods Animal Hospital in Kansas City, semiretiring in 1993 when he moved to Atlanta and continued to serve as an on-call veterinarian. Earlier in his career, Dr. Barrows practiced in Macon, Mo., and served as a partner at Eagle Animal Hospital in Riverside, Mo. He was a past chair of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Board and a past president of the Missouri VMA, and served on the AVMA Judicial Council from 2002-2006. Dr. Barrows was also active with the Georgia VMA and Greater Atlanta VMS. In 1992, he received the MVMA President's Award. Dr. Barrows was a veteran of the Army. His wife, Paula; two daughters; and a son survive him. Memorials in his name may be made to the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine, Columbia, MO 65211.

John P. Combs

Dr. Combs (COR '62), 72, Cape Haze, Fla., died Jan. 5, 2011. Prior to retirement, he practiced mixed animal medicine, focusing on equids, in Peterborough, N.H. In retirement, Dr. Combs helped found the Suncoast Humane Society, serving as president for six years. Early in his career, he was an instructor in the large animal clinic at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Combs was a past president of the New Hampshire VMA and a past member of the New Hampshire Board of Veterinary Medicine. He was also a past president of the Peterborough Rotary Club. Dr. Combs is survived by his wife, Martha, and two daughters. Memorials may be made to the Veterinary Scholarship Trust of New England, P.O. Harold B. Kimble

Dr. Kimble (OKL '59), 80, Mantorville, Minn., died May 18, 2011. A mixed animal practitioner, he was the founder of Carriage House Animal Hospital in Kasson, Minn. Dr. Kimble was a member of the Minnesota VMA. Active in civic life, he served as mayor of Kasson from 1967-1970. Dr. Kimble was a first lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War and received the Combat Infantry Badge. His wife, Barbara; two sons; and a daughter survive him. Maurice C. Morrissette

Dr. Morrissette (KSU '54), 89, Baton Rouge, La., died March 21, 2011. In 1969, he joined Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine as head of the Department of Physiology, Pharmacology, and Toxicology, retiring in 1987 as professor emeritus and assistant to the dean. Dr. Morrissette was part of the founding committee that helped establish the LSU veterinary school. Earlier in his career, he taught and conducted research at Kansas State University and Oklahoma State University. Dr. Morrissette was a coast guard veteran of World War II. Benjamin Rosenfeld

Dr. Rosenfeld (ISU '37), 98, St. Augustine, Fla., died April 24, 2011. A retired mixed animal practitioner, he owned practices in Iowa and New York during his career. During World War II, Dr. Rosenfeld served with the 10th Mountain Medical Battalion of the Army Veterinary Corps, attaining the rank of captain. He is survived by his wife, Shirley C. DeWitt; a son; and three daughters.

Edward L. Savage

Dr. Savage (COR '65), 75, Freeville, N.Y., died Jan. 28, 2011. He owned New York Machining in Ithaca and Cortland, both in New York state. Early in his career, Dr. Savage owned The Antique Inn in Ithaca. He was a veteran of the Marines. Dr. Savage is survived by his wife, Jo; a son; a daughter; and four stepchildren. Memorials may be made to the Central New York Spay-Neuter Assistance Program, 178 Central Ave., Cortland, NY 13045; or Gadabout (transit service for the elderly and disabled), 737 Willow Ave., Ithaca, NY 14850.

F. Keith Whitener

Dr. Whitener (WSU '60), 80, Quincy, Wash., died March 25, 2011. From 1961 until retirement in 1993, he was a partner at Quincy Veterinary Clinic, a mixed animal practice, along with his brother, Dr. S. LeRoy Whitener (WSU '54). Earlier in his career, Dr. Whitener practiced in Spokane, Wash. He was a member of the North Central VMA and Rotary Club. Dr. Whitener served in the Army during the Korean War. His wife, Wilma; two sons; and a daughter survive him. One son, Dr. Eric K. Whitener (WSU '79), practices small animal medicine at Sunset Veterinary Clinic in East Wenatchee, Wash.
